How Nottingham Moderns RFC Secured a 5-Star Hygiene Rating with the Safer Food Group<\/h2>\n

NMRFC<\/a> is a community based rugby club in Wilford, Nottingham with a thriving youth and minis section. Food has always been an important part of the rugby scene - sharing a meal with the opposition, refuelling young players after a tough training session, encouraging parents to get involved with the club.<\/p>\n

The Challenge: Scaling Volunteer Catering for a Growing Youth Section<\/h2>\n

The club started using Safer Food Group training courses<\/a>\u00a0when their Sunday morning catering team grew to meet the needs of their increasing membership. We spoke to Clare, their Catering Manager to understand the impact that SFG training has had on the club.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn a Sunday morning, we feed our hungry kids and their parents with bacon and sausage sandwiches \u2013 it keeps them happy and helps us raise money to maintain the club. Originally, a handful of mums and dads would come in and cook while their kids were playing, but as our membership numbers grew, it became obvious that we needed to set up our catering operation properly \u2013 and that included getting a bigger, trained volunteer team.<\/p>\n

It is always tricky asking volunteers to take on additional tasks like training \u2013 they already dedicate lots of spare time to the club, so we needed a Level 2 Food Hygiene<\/a> course that was thorough but quick, that they could fit in when it suited them.\"<\/p>\n

The Solution: Flexible Food Hygiene Training for Busy Volunteers<\/h2>\n

\"Our first volunteers took their SFG Level 2 Food Hygiene courses\u00a0<\/a>in 2012, and we\u2019ve used the same training ever since. Having a group of trained volunteers helps us to spread the load, and we know we\u2019re not taking a risk with the safety of the food we feed the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

The club has also used Level 2 HACCP<\/a> and Allergen awareness training<\/a> to build a straightforward kitchen process that could be followed by any volunteer. And as proof our their success - they have consistently received 5 star hygiene ratings<\/a> ever since they registered as a food business over a decade ago.<\/p>\n
