What does it cover?
This accredited course is based on the nationally recognised Level 2 Award in the Principles of HACCP syllabus. Why is this course necessary?
This course is important for three reasons. Firstly; it is the Law, every business or premises serving food to the general public must by UK and EU Law implement a Food Safety Management System based on HACCP Principles (this includes any Early Years setting serving meals or snacks). Secondly; babies and young children are at greater risk of a poor outcome from food poisoning due to their under developed immune system. And thirdly; your childcare centre cannot score 5 stars in the FSA hygiene rating scheme (or equivalent Pass in Scotland) without a well-managed HACCP System.
Who is this course for?
This new Level 2 HACCP Principles (Early Years) course is aimed at staff involved in the planning, cooking and managing of food provision in an Early Years setting. This course is approved by endorsed by NDNA National Day Nurseries Association and is also appropriate for those working with young children in the health, social care and education sectors.

Why should I take an academically recognised accredited training course?
Most organisations choose to use external training providers delivering accredited training to an approved syllabus because it usually takes less time, is cheaper and offers a higher degree of security and Due-Diligence defence in the event of a serious incident leading to court action. All training providers are duty bound to provide training that is relevant, appropriate and meaningful to the industry. Usually, the higher the level of academic accreditation offered, the more rigorous the checks and externally audited undertaken. Training providers see their role as important in helping to promote food safety.
All training providers keep up to date with current laws and change their course content whenever it is necessary. Training providers usually offer documented evidence for a learner giving the date the exam was passed, the percentage mark etc. If you organise internal ie non accredited training, you will need to spend time checking through current legislation and making sure that your course content is correct and that you keep appropriate training records for every staff member.
How does the Examination & Award work?
This course comprises a single Level 2 Unit (single credit) and consists of 6 chapters, each of approximately 30 minutes study. Each chapter consists of a Learn video, detailed chapter notes, and self-test questions and, where appropriate, some downloadable documents and help guides.
The examination consists of a 30 minute online multi-choice test and assessed at Level 2. Successful candidates receive a Level 2 Award Introduction to HACCP Principles and Food Safety Management Systems (AIHPSFG14 ) from QUALIFI, a UK based OFQUAL regulated Awarding Organisation, supplied as a high resolution electronic document (PDF). Awards are audited and verifiable with audited learner activity and learner success data kept on permanent record. The course fee includes entry for the examination including unlimited free retakes.
